September 30 2020 - Living the expat life, Exploring different Cultures
After 14 days in quarantine in a dark hotelroom in Nanjing, we finally arrived at the campus of UWC in Changshu! Our new home!
Well, not just yet… as we are currently in a temporary apartment where we need to adhere to one additional week of home isolation. We will stay in this apartment till the newly built apartments next to the campus are ready.
But boy did we fell in love with this place already. It’s beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Kucheng, we are surrounded by trees, water and whistling birds. What a difference compared to the last 14 days. And how welcome! We will enjoy every minute of it!
UWC Campus – our temporary stay.
Even though we are in home isolation and cannot see anyone yet, the welcome was a warm one nevertheless. The HR department had very sweetly delivered flowers, fruits and a box of chocolates for the new arrivals. And my sweet friends who have been so excitedly waiting for us to arrive, did some great first-aid grocery shopping! Beer (!!), coffee, tea, chocolates, cookies, nuts and detergent were waiting for us in our apartment. No wonder we felt at home instantly.

The campus is absolutely amazing. It’s almost more a park than a campus, with trees, water and little walkways for early morning walks. Too bad we are still in isolation so we cannot yet enjoy it to the fullest, but we are certainly enjoying our own little area. Getting the vitamine D levels back up! And the weather has been very nice so far. The autumn seems to be the best time of the year, with mostly sunny days, a summerly temperature between 24-28 degrees and not too much rain.
So it was definitely worth the effort of the quarantine and the long wait in the Netherlands. Finally we can begin that new chapter of our lives and so far it tastes sweet!
See y'all!
